The first time we met Julie*, she had just injured her ankle and foot. At the time, we didn’t realized surgery would be necessary, but we knew she wouldn’t be able to work for a while. Her initial plan was to stay with someone, but that situation turned out to be unsafe. She had moved to another location, but unfortunately, that environment was also unsafe. With no car, no place to go, and unable to walk, Julie was in a very vulnerable position.
We were able offer her some peace of mind during a time that felt daunting and overwhelming. First, we found her a safe temporary place to stay. We took her to doctor’s appointments, accompanied her to foot surgery, and provided 72 hours of around the clock care afterward. We also organized a meal train, in which you generously provided wonderful meals.
Once her temporary housing came to an end, we were able to connect her with a short-term residential solution for several weeks. We recently moved her into her college dormitory. She was able to get a part-time job. And we have helped her with a food voucher from Community Harvest Food Bank. We are confident that Julie to do well. She is smart, resilient, and determined. It was our privilege to walk alongside her and provide stability during such a difficult season in her life. We will continue to stay connected to her and provide her with trauma therapy or other help as needed.
