What is Human Trafficking?
Human trafficking is the use of force, threat of force, fraud or coercion to compel a person into any form of work or services against their will. There are two types of human trafficking, labor and sex. This is the world’s modern day slavery.
Sex Trafficking definition: The recruiting, harboring, transporation, provision, obtaining, patronizing or soliciting of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act in which the commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud or coercion or in which the person induced to perform such an act is under 18 years old.
Signs that someone might be a victim of trafficking:
- Signs of physical abuse such as burns, marks, bruises or cuts
- Bragging about making or having a lot of money
- Displays expensive clothing, accessories, or shoes.
- Tattoo with a crown, $ or number.
- Someone else has control of their ID, passport
- Scripted/restricted communication
- Controlling adult/partner
- Chronic truancy/runaway/or homeless youth
- Multiple hotel keys, marbles, poker chips or cell phones
- Lack of knowledge of their whereabouts
